One of the symbols that unites members of Black Dragon Kai together regardless of which style within the organization that they practice is the symbol of the “Kai”. Kai is a Japanese word which means Group, Association or Organisation, but also translates in Thai to mean Training Camp. Thus, Black Dragon Kai has meaning in both Japanese and in Thai of a group that we the Black Dragons belong to. This is represented by the pendant and symbol we call the Kai.
It is an eight-sided octagon with each side representing a different virtue to be upheld
- Prudence
- Fortitude
- Rectitude
- Integrity
- Loyalty
- Temperance
- Benevolence
- Respect
The three spirals represent the three states
- Fighting Body
- Fighting Mind
- Fighting Spirit
With the Centre representing the one Duty
- Honour
It is the bond that living up to these principles instils in the student and the responsibility of following this code that brings all members of Black Dragon Kai together. Regardless of the martial art practiced all members of Black Dragon Kai must uphold these principles of virtue.
As this can be worn outside of the school, it is essential that those awarded the Kai pendant uphold the values at all times in life, not just on the mat. As such the right to wear the Kai is not a fast process, as instructors must take the time to assess the character and readiness of the student first.
Below is listed the different levels of the Kai and the people taht have been awared them. (If yuor name is not on the list please immediatly contact your Instructor)
